Sewing Classes: Beginners Free Motion Quilting

If you have always wanted to give Free-motion quilting a try but have been unsure of where to start, then join us in this class and let your creativity runn free!

Learn the art of doodling free hand patterns with thread to create a truly unique design on your finished quilt.

Class Requirements:
Sewing machine in Good working condition with power cord, foot control and all accessories 
- Free Motion Darning Foot to fit your machine - Please enquire if you need to purchase one
- Good Quality sewing thread - A contrasting colour is best - if unsure we have some available to purchase in store
- 2x 1m squares of calico fabric
- 1m square of quilt batting 
- Notebook and pen

Dressmaking Class: Tula Pants by Papercut

Join us for a two week dressmaking course where you will learn to make these easy casual style trousers!

The perfect everyday pant for trans-seasonal wear. The Tula Pant has an elasticated waistband with an option to add a drawstring, side pockets and ankle cuffs. Choose between a wide or peg leg fit. Wear them long as cosy trackies, everyday casuals, a little dressy for those special occasions, or even secret pyjamas. Don’t forget that short and sweet option too! Your options are almost endless with these pants of your dreams.

These pants are a very easy beginner pattern. You can make them into full length trousers, mid length or shorts.

Fabric Requirements:
Recommended fabric - Light to mid-weight woven. Linen, cotton & blends
* Measurements are based on 140cm wide fabric
- Pants sizes 6-12  - 1.6 mtrs
- Pants sizes 8-20 - 2.3 mtrs
- Shorts all sizes - 1.2 mtrs

Notions & Other Materials:
- Elastic 4cm wide - 1mtr
- Iron on Interfacing - 30 cms
- Sew in interfacing for tracing pattern 3 mts

Sewing Classes: Beginners Quilting - Easy Star Quilt

Have you always wanted to give quilting a go but had no idea where to start? Then this class is for you!

In this class you will learn the very basics of quilting, right from using a rotary cutter and cutting mat to quilting with a walking foot!

You will be making the Cozy Star Quilt - Approx 150cm Square

 

Class Requirements:
Sewing machine in Good working condition with power cord, foot control and all accessories 
- 1/4" foot and Walking foot (Please ask us if you need to purchase these and we can find the right ones for you)
- Good quality Quilting Thread to match your fabric - Available in store 
- 45mm Rotary Cutter and Cutting Mat (A2 is best for classes) - There is an A1 mat in the classroom if needed
- 6 1/2" x 12 1/2" or 6 1/2" x 24 1/2" Quilting Ruler
- Scissors, Pins, Seam Ripper
- Mini iron and pressing mat (If you have one)
- Notebook and pen

Fabric Requirements: Please refer to picture
Fabric A - Background - 1m - Needs to be a contrast so the stars stand out
- Fabric B - 1m - 4x Star points and first border
- Fabric C - 2m - 4x Star points and second border plus binding 
- Backing Fabric - 1.7m of wide quilt backing material
- 1.7m of Quilt Batting (Cotton)

Sewing Classes: Machine Basics 101

Do you have a new Sewing machine, or an older one that you feel you just don't know how to use? Then this class is the answer!

We will take you through all the basics from threading the machine to buttonholes and zippeers.

You will be sewing a simple cushion cover using your new found skills, a process that includes sewing seams, using different types of stitches and sewing a buttonhole! 

You will also learn how to make a zippered case.

After this class, you will have the confidence to get started on your sewing journey.

Sewing Classes: Machine Embroidery for Clothing

If you are new to Machine embroidery and want to learn to apply designs to clothing then this class is for you!

Aimed at beginners, we will show you how to stitch out your design onto a cotton based garment. You will learn how to position your design so it is stitched in the right place, as well as what stabiliser to use for your fabric.

 

Class Requirements:
Embroidery Machine in working condition with power cord and appropriate sized hoop for your project 
- Embroidery design of your choice - Either from your machine or downloaded onto a USB stick *Please choose something simple
- Embroidery threads and bobbin fill 
- Scissors, pins, fabric marking pen
- Garment to embroider onto - Cotton shirt, Denim jacket, Skirt - Must be woven fabric and NOT STRETCH
- Embroidery stabiliser -  either tearaway or snipaway - available in store
- Notebook and pen

Sewing Classes: Embroidery Computer Basics

If you are new to machine embroidery then this class is for you!

The very first steps of machine embroidery actually happen on your computer! In this class you will learn how to download embroidery design files from online stores, how to unzip them and store them on your computer.

You will also learn how to format your USB stick and how to transfer and save designs onto it.

Laptop computer with power cord and mouse if needed
- USB Stick under 4GB

Sewing Classes: Beginners Machine Embroidery - Towels

If you are new to embroidery and would like to try stitching onto towels, then this class is for you.

You will learn all the tips and tricks for embroidering onto toweling fabric including what stabilisers to use and how to hoop up the material.

You will be using the Fonts and lettering found on your embroidery machine, so if you would like to use a differnt font, please make sure you have it downloaded and ready to go before the class.

- 1m of Solvy Stabiliser - Can be purchased in store 
- 1m Tearaway Stabiliser - Can be purchased in store

Sewing Classes: Overlocker Workshop

Have you got an overlocker but not sure how to get the most out of it?  Then this is the class for you!

You will learn new techniques and tips on how to get the most of your overlocker

Techniques covered in this class include:
- Machine Threading
- Sewing around curves and corners
- Gathering
- Rolled Hemming
- Flatlocking
- Attching Elastic
- Attaching Ribbing
- Making Rouleau straps

 


Class Requirements:
- Overlocker in good working condition with Power cord/foot control and manual
- Overlocker Accessories including tweezers, screwdrivers etc
- Good Quality Overlocker Thread - Available Here
- 30cms of 6mm elastic
- 15cm piece of Ribbing 

Class price includes 12 pieces of fabric for sewing samples

You will take home a finished product that you can use or give as a gift.
